Opera The Opera browser for Android is getting a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature that can perform image-related search queries. The feature will be integrated into the browser’s native AI assistant, Aria, as part of the company’s AI Feature Drop program. The feature will be available in Opera Developer builds of the Android browser. Notably, the feature was already available on the desktop version of the browser, but this update will bring it to the mobile version as well.
New AI features coming to Opera browser for Android
The company said about the new AI features: Blog Post The company also said that it aims to make it easier for users to understand what is depicted in an image. It’s called “Image Understanding” and will be available within the Aria chatbot’s interface. The AI assistant can be accessed from the sidebar. Once the Aria side panel is open, users can tap the “+” icon to upload an image.
Once an image is uploaded, Aria can process it via computer vision and answer questions about it — for example, a user could upload an image of a windmill and have the AI describe it.
Opera emphasized that users can upload up to three images at a time and get responses to them. Queries are only accepted in text format; notably, the image understanding feature can only answer questions based on what it sees in the image. Users can, however, ask follow-up questions, and Aria will find answers from the web.
Computer vision capabilities can also be used to process text written in an image. For example, Aria can process a math problem drawn in an image and provide the answer. Users can also ask Aria to generate an image based on image input.
The feature is part of the company’s AI Feature Drop program, in which Opera adds new experimental features every two weeks. Image Understanding is currently available in Opera Developer builds and will be rolled out to general Opera users in the future.
